The Fens is known as the English Holland, a flat and dramatic landscape with the more water channels than any other area in Britain. Dutch engineers claimed the land from lake, marsh and sea, the names of the vast Holland Fen, South Holland Main Drain, and South Holland district around Spalding remind us of this history.
