In America 4th March is National Pound Cake Day. This is an old recipe based on equal quantities of all ingredients to the weight of a pound. It makes a vast cake meant to feed a large household or workforce. Before labour saving devices, cake making was a lot of work as the essence is to put fine air bubbles into the mix.
