The origin of cake names can't always be easily traced. Cakes are sometimes named after towns, bakers, queens, ingredients, celebrations, rituals and gatherings; London Buns, Sally Lunn Cakes, Victoria Sponge, Madeira, Christmas cake, Hogmanay and Harvest cake. I don't know if this cake is named after the town or the game.
