Many almanacs and collections of folklore say the characteristics of the weather in March and April predict that of the forthcoming year. I thought a Poppy Seed Cake would evoke images of fields of summer flowers. Poppy seeds are used to flavor breads and cakes in European and Middle Eastern cooking.
