Easter is Hot Cross Buns. The pastry or peal crosses symbolise the crucifixion. Supposedly breads baked at Easter have curative qualities. Cakes made with yeast are forerunners to modern cakes. Elisabeth 1 decreed spiced breads and buns to be sold on feast days only so linking them to Christmas and Easter in Britain.
