Soraya Smithson

I am an artist who makes drawings, prints, books, collages, and public sculpture. I am also interested in conceiving work in response to location, and am equally happy to work on large pieces as on an intimate scale.

The mainstay of my practice however is drawing; but drawing in its broadest sense, with scissors, tin snips, or on a lithography stone. It is about making ideas, shapes and the spaces within a line.

I am interested in the daily rituals of life and the relationship between the domestic environment and the outside world. I am drawn to found materials that carry past associations.

The 'A cake for every day' project is a journey through baking, folklore, printing presses and cake eating.
